Lee Ray Lineberry, 88, of Salem, passed away on Tuesday, January 1, 2013. He was born on December 8, 1924 to the late Louis A. and Bessie B. Lineberry. Lee Ray was a proud WWII veteran having served in the U.S. Army. He was a member of Salem Baptist Church for over 73 years where he was especially fond of his Sunday School class. Professionally, he was retired from the U.S. Postal Service where he was a postmaster, thus becoming a member of the Retired Postal Workers. Lee Ray was a part of the Salem Senior Citizens Musical Program known as the Salem Pickers. He also enjoyed meeting regularly with his Andrew Lewis High School graduating class for breakfast as well as his Salem Mens Breakfast Club at Anthonys. He loved people, especially his family and extended family. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Herman and Monroe Lineberry; son, Daniel R. Lineberry; and wife and love of his life, Ruth Lockard Lineberry. His surviving family includes his son, Lee Eric Lineberry and wife, Annette Deaton; grandchildren, Daniel R. Lineberry and wife, Katrina, and Britnee, Zachary, and Miranda Shupe; sister, June Lockard; sister-in-law, Margaret Lineberry; and dear, dear friend, Jewell S. Tyree. The family will receive friends on Thursday, January 3, 2013 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at the John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home in Salem. A funeral service will be held on Friday, January 4, 2013 at 2 p.m. in the funeral homes chapel. Interment will follow at Sherwood Memorial Park. The Rev. Dr. John (Jack) W. Lowe, Jr. will officiate.
