On the beautiful, snowy evening of January 23, 2016 at UVA Medical Center, surrounded by his wife and daughters, Kevin Edward Sheppard left this earth for his eternal home in Heaven. His journey on this earth began on July 29, 1960. In his 55 years on this earth, he touched many lives.
Kevin lives on through his mother, Evelyn Sheppard; his soul mate and wife of 35 years, Teresa Sheppard; his children, Jeremy and Ashley Luck, Kimberly Conner, and Adam and Kayla Battle; his two grandchildren, Kyleigh and Kellen Luck; his brother, Carmel and wife Susie Sheppard; his sister, Connie and husband Brian Wilkinson; his in-laws, Tommy and Thalia Huff; sister-in-law, Susan McLaren; best friend, Mike Glass; brother/cousin, Ricky Duncan; many nieces and nephews; and many, many other friends and family members.
Kevin is preceded in death by his father, James (Jimmy) Sheppard; son-in-law, Brian Conner; and brother/cousin Dale Duncan.
Kevin spent all of his years making others smile through friendships made by traveling for the US Transplant Games, participating in sports, playing hockey, being a member of the Fort Lewis Fire Department and Red Knights MC, coaching many teams including SHS softball team and most recently his beloved granddaughter on the Glenvar Dirt Diamonds in 2015, and meeting new friends during his time driving for Mount Regis. He loved each and every person he met.
The family appreciates the nursing staff of CCU at LGH, many of which now feel like part of our family, the staff of MICU at UVA, and the staff at RMH for their care and affection during his recent stays.
The family will receive friends from 4 until 7 p.m. on Tuesday, January 26, 2016 at John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home in Salem. A funeral service to honor Kevins life will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, January 27, 2016 in the funeral home chapel, with Pastor Don Woodard officiating.
