Kenneth "Ken" Grant Meador, Sr., 84 of Shawsville, VA, passed away on Wednesday, February 12, 2025.
Ken retired as First Sergeant in the U.S. Army and retired over 40 years from Carter Machinery.
Ken was born in Roanoke, VA, on Sunday, December 22, 1940, to Sylvester and Ruby Meador.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 40 years Aloma A. Meador; son Jason Lyn Meador; and brother-in-law, Don Compton.
Family and friends left to cherish his memory include his wife, Cathy Lafon Meador of Shawsville, VA; daughter, Sherrie M. Fisher, of Roanoke, VA; son, Ken Meador (Susie) of Boones Mill, VA; daughter-in-law, Laura Meador, of Norfolk, VA; granddaughter, Brittanie Fisher West (Rob), of Colorado Springs, CO, Hailey Nicholson of Norfolk, VA and Caroline Meador of Norfolk, VA; great-grandson, Braxton West of Colorado Springs, CO; brothers, Charles Meador, of Blue Ridge, VA and Roger Meador, of Moneta, VA; stepson, Aaron Lafon, and step-grandson, Alex Lafon; sisters-in-law, Dorothy Howery (Jimmy) of Floyd, VA, Nelva Akres of Ellett, VA, Pat Barnett (Melvin) of Blacksburg, VA; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, uncles, aunts, and cousins.
Ken loved to travel and cruise adventures with his Uncle Cecil Meador Sr, his cousins, Debbie Batey, Cecil Meador, Jr., Steve and Wanda Noel, and many other friends.
Friends Larry and Sharon Tickle, Harry and Ilse Hawks, Brenda Weidman, Russell and Sandra Hodges, Richard and Shirley Cox. As well as so many other friends, co-workers, and neighbors.
Ken mentored, taught, and helped so many when and wherever he was needed.
The family will welcome friends to join them on Tuesday, March 4, 2025, from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. at the John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home Chapel located in Salem, VA, where a funeral service to honor his life will begin at 2 p.m. with Rev. Dr. Tom Harvey officiating. Interment will follow at Cedar Lawn Memorial Park in Roanoke, VA.
