It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Kathy Marie Gilbert Campbell, 55, of Catawba, Virginia. Kathy went to be with the Lord on Saturday, July 4, 2026, peacefully in her home.
She was born on July 31, 1970, in Christiansburg, Virginia, to Bobby Earl Gilbert and Alma Lee Michael Gilbert.
Kathy was a loving wife and mother who cherished her family above all else. She treasured every opportunity to spend time with those she loved most, creating countless memories that her family will forever hold dear. Kathy lived life with enthusiasm, energy, and a spirit of adventure. She was tremendously giving, always willing to lend a hand, and eager to help friends and family with any need, big or small. She found happiness outdoors, whether she was gardening, camping, fishing, or relaxing at the beach. She also loved spending weekends at races with her husband, reading, listening to live music, and taking girls' trips with her friends and sisters.
Kathy was passionate in all that she did and was known for her strong work ethic. She dedicated the last 35 years of her life to her career at Graham-White Manufacturing Co., where she built lasting friendships and earned the respect of her colleagues. Kathy touched countless lives through her selflessness, warmth, generosity, sense of humor, and welcoming nature.
Though she will be deeply missed, her love and the memories she created will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew her. Her family finds comfort in knowing she is no longer suffering and is now dancing in the presence of Jesus. While her time on earth feels far too short, it was richly filled with love, laughter, adventure, and enough treasured moments to last multiple lifetimes.
In addition to her parents, Kathy was preceded in death by her brother, Bobby Lee Gilbert, and her stepmother, Barbara Gilbert.
She is survived by her devoted and loving husband, John David Campbell ("JD"), who was by her side through life's joys and challenges. She leaves behind her beloved sons, Andrew Baum and his wife, Ashley, and their children, Adleigh, Aubrey, and Westley; and Christopher Baum and his wife, Kaleigh, and their son, Carter-Paeton, all of whom brought her immense pride and joy. She is also lovingly remembered by her mother-in-law, Phyllis Campbell; her stepson, Brandon Casey Campbell, and his wife, Alyssa, and their children, Jaydon, Nathan, Gracie, and Holly; her stepdaughter, Carissa Anderson; her stepson, Brandon Anderson; and her sisters, Alice Theis and her husband, Butch, and Lori Duncan. She will also be deeply missed by her many nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and dear friends, whose lives were touched by her kindness, love, and generous spirit.
Friends and family are invited to celebrate Kathy's life from 5 p.m. - 7 p.m. on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, at the John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home, located at 305 Roanoke Blvd, Salem, Va. 24153.
