Kathleen Wood

Kathleen Wood, 87, of Richmond, and formerly Salem, went home to be with her Lord on Tuesday, April 15, 2014. She was born in Campbell County, a daughter of the late Early T. and Ruby Gills Elliott and had been a Salem area resident for most of her life. She retired as a telephone operator with the Chesapeake and Potomac Telephone Company following many years of service and was a member of Villa Heights and West Salem Baptist Churches. Kathleen enjoyed sewing and crocheting, but most of all spending time with her family. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin E. Wood, a brother, Earl Elliott and a grandson. She is survived by three daughters, Diane Butler and her husband George, Mrs. John A. (Carolyn) Peery and Connie Giles; a brother, Roy Elliott; two sisters, Mary Flax and Helen Fitzgerald; eight grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 11AM, Saturday, April 19, 2014 at the chapel of John M. Oakey & Son, Salem. Her grandson, Rev. George Butler, Jr. will officiate. Burial will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8PM this evening (Friday) at the funeral home.
