Karen Lee Cole, age 76, of Salem, Va. formerly of Athens Pa. passed away on Monday, October 1, 2018. She was born on Wednesday, August 26, 1942 to the late Marleta Jeanette Kinney and Robert Leon Kinney. Karen studied at the Robert-Packard School of Nursing in Sayre, Pa. and was a Registered Nurse at Lewis-Gale Medical Center for 41 years. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her sisters, Kristina Beemiller (Ronald), and Karel Whyte (James); one granddaughter, Hannah Cole.
She is survived by her husband of 55 years, David Cole; children, Bonnie Verhey and husband, Martin of Colorado Springs, Co., Douglas Cole and wife, Rachel of Jackson Center, Pa., Brenda Baxley and husband, Dwayne of Salem, Va., Jennifer Stanley and husband, Barry of Roanoke, Va.; grandchildren, Harrison and Peter Verhey; Sarah, Priscilla, Elsa, Sean, Timothy, and Caleb Cole; Madison and Brooke Baxley; Stephen Cooley, and Daniel Stanley; three siblings, Brad Kinney, Nancy Brown Clark, and Thomas Brown; numerous nieces and nephews also survive.
A funeral service to celebrate Karens life will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, October 6, 2018 at John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home in Salem, Va. with Pastor Don Woodard officiating. Burial will follow at Sherwood Memorial Park in Salem.
Friends may visit with the family from 12 2 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral home.
