June Purdy DeWease, 84 of Roanoke, peacefully passed away at her home on Friday, January 11, 2013. She was born on May 18, 1928 to the late Kyle H. Purdy Sr. and Dora M. Sigmon Purdy in Roanoke, VA. Ms. DeWease was baptized on August 31, 1997, at the age of 69 in the Jehovahs Witness faith and will be remembered as a generous and hospitable lady by all her knew her. She thoroughly enjoyed working crossword puzzles at any moment she had the chance, but she will be remembered most as a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, Howard W. DeWease; brothers, Kyle H. Purdy, Jr. and Paul L Purdy, and a grandson, Danny Ray DeWease, Jr. She is survived by two sons, Robert L. DeWease, of Roanoke and Danny R. DeWease and fianc, Diana, of Boones Mill; sisters, Velva Jean Martin, of Roanoke and Shirley Thomas, of Blacksburg; grandchildren, Robert L. DeWease, Jr., of Roanoke, Jennifer S Hamilton, of Eagle Rock, Daniel J. DeWease, of Lynchburg and Amy S DeWease, also of Roanoke; great-grandchildren, Ricky A. Wade, Jr., Justin A. Wade, Ethan DeWease and Alexander McCrickand. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive. The family will receive friends on Monday, January 14, 2013 from 6 until 8 p.m. at the John M. Oakey & Son funeral home in Salem. Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday, January 15, 2013 at 11 a.m. in the funeral home chapel with Elder Leon Denson officiating.
