Judy Lee Guthrie Perdue, 66, of Salem, went to be with her Lord on Thursday, March 28, 2013. Judy was a wonderful and loving mother and friend. She always put others first and worked with Volunteer Tutor Literacy and Volunteers of America for over ten years. She loved going to school and went back to get a Bachelors Degree in English from Hollins University, graduating in 2003. She was devoted to her family, being the caretaker for her parents and never missing her childrens games or shows. She was preceded in death by her parents, Herman and Ora Guthrie. Her surviving family includes her son, Doug Perdue and fiance, Samantha Murphy; daughter, Anne McCroskey and husband, Eric; brother, Shelton Guthrie; and many cherished friends. A special thanks to her best friend of more than 40 years, Carolyn Taylor of Pensacola FL. The family will receive friends on Monday, April 1, 2013 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home in Salem. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, April 2, 2013 at 11 a.m. in the funeral homes chapel with interment immediately following at Sherwood Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the American Cancer Society at 2840 Electric Road in Roanoke, VA 24018; the Jimmy V Foundation for Cancer Research at 106 Towerview Court in Cary, NC 27513; or to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital at 262 Danny Thomas Place in Memphis, TN 38105.
