Judith Louv Trent, of Salem, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, May 18, 2014. She was born in New Rochelle, NY, the daughter of Walter and Alberta Louv who predeceased her.
She was a graduate of Roanoke College and earned her masters degree from Hollins University. She was retired from the Roanoke County School System where she was an elementary school guidance counselor. She worked in several schools in the valley, but her last position was perhaps her favorite. She was the counselor at Bent Mountain Elementary, a place she enjoyed being each school day.
She is survived by her husband and best friend, Hal; and three wonderful children, Hal, Annie, and John. She dearly loved her children and was very proud of their unique gifts and strengths and the adults they grew up to be. She also loved her daughter-in-law, Sasha, who is married to Hal and she cherished their twin sons, Andrew and Benjamin, her grandsons. Also surviving is her aunt, Dorothy Wachter of Westchester County, NY; and her brother, Arthur Louv and his family in Winter Park, FL. She was quite proud of her brother even though they lived very far apart and she loved the attention that he constantly provided. A cousin survives her, Debbie Layman of Portland, OR, who was so supportive and so positive during her illness. Finally, her sister-in-law, Cherry Tickle of Bland, VA who spent many special hours with her and provided great support to her family, survives her as well.
Together, the family would like to thank Blue Ridge Cancer Care for all of their help and Dr. William Fintel who was both physician and friend to Judy and her family. We would also like to thank all of our friends who helped during this difficult time and especially Ellen Holtman who was constantly in touch with Judy to offer comfort and cheer.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, May 22, 2014 from 4 to 7 p.m. at College Lutheran Church at 210 South College Avenue in Salem. A memorial service will be held on Friday, May 23, 2014 at 11 a.m., also at the church. Pastor Wynemah Hinlicky will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Judy may be made to either College Lutheran Church or a charity of preference. The Trent family is being served by John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home and Crematory in Salem, 540-389-5441.Visitation
