Juanita Lura Conner Semones

Juanita Lura Conner Semones, of Roanoke, Va., passed away on Saturday, November 18, 2023, at the age of 95. She was born in Floyd County on January 27, 1928. She spoke often of growing up in Floyd and working on the farm with her siblings. She loved working outside in her flower beds. She was a member of the LOA Diners Club in Roanoke, Va. Juanita attended Little Hope Primitive Baptist Church all her life. Juanita was preceded in death by her father, Joseph Otey Conner; mother, Mary Sowers Conner; sister, Dorothy Craighead Holley; and her brother, W. T. Conner. She is survived by her son, Mike Semones (Susan); daughter, Melody Riffey (Larry); grandson, Sam Williams (Jennifer) of Rock Hill, S.C.; great-grandchildren, Matthew and Gabrielle Williams of Hickory, N.C.; sisters, Ortha Gay Hundley and Opaldeen Conner (Don); and brother, Junior Conner (Nancy). The family thanks South Roanoke Nursing Home and Gentiva Hospice for their care. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, November 22, 2023, at the Head of the River Church Cemetery in Copper Hill, Va., with Elder Junior Conner officiating.
