Joyce Darlene Eary

Joyce Darlene Eary, 89, of Salem, went to be with the Lord while surrounded by her family, on Friday, April 5, 2024. Born in Bluefield, West Virginia, on August 16, 1934, to the late Douglas William and Ruby Gillespie Halstead, she was part of a large family with 12 brothers and sisters. She was preceded in death by her husband of 38 years, Sgt. Charles T. Eary of the U.S. Marine Corps. Also preceding her in death was her loving, special friend, Betty Paitsel. Darlene loved taking care of her friends and family. She truly made a house into a home! Beautiful both inside and out, her smile would light up the room. As the wife of a retired Marine, she was both strong and independent and had a kind and loving heart. Those left to cherish her memory are her children, Edward Eddie Eary and wife, Deborah, Lora Muncy and husband, Rex, and Daniel Danny Eary; grandchildren, Richard Eary, Kevin (Sarah) Eary, Justin (Sara) Muncy, Jessica Muncy, Sabrina Muncy, Kayla Eary, Courtney (Kenny) Jobe, and Cheyenne (Justin) Eary; several great-grandchildren; and her canine companion, Teddy, and Stella Cat. The family will welcome friends on Friday, April 12, 2024, for a time of visitation from 12:00 p.m. 2:00 p.m., in the chapel of John M. Oakey and Son Funeral Home, Salem. Funeral services will begin at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Matt King officiating. Interment will immediately follow the service at Sherwood Memorial Park, Salem. For those unable to attend the services, the chapel service will be live-streamed on our website. Please join us at Glenvar Baptist Church, Salem immediately following the graveside service.
