Joseph "Joey" Trovata

Joseph "Joey" Trovata, Jr., 74, of Shawsville, Va., was reunited with his loved ones gone before him Monday, December 22, 2025.

Joey was born to the late Angelina Melodayo Trovata and Joseph A. Trovata, Sr., on Thursday, February 1, 1951, in Binghamton, N.Y. The family later moved to Buffalo, N.Y. where Joey spent many years before moving to Virginia where he went on to work for ITT, retiring after 20 years of faithful dedication. Joey had a passion for Harleys and loved to spend time adventuring on his own bike. He loved his family deeply, and he cherished his beloved grandchildren more than anything else in the world.

In addition to his parents, Joey was preceded in death by his son, Anthony "A.J." Trovata, Sr.

Left to cherish Joey's memory are his loving wife of 45 years, Charlene Esene Trovata and their children Joseph Smith (Lori) and Jack Smith, Sr. (Melissa), his sister Anne Vento (Jim); grandchildren, Kierstin Billups (Dorian), Ryan Smith, Jack Smith, Jr., Nicholas Smith (Kayla), Dylan Smith, Anthony Trovata, Jr. (Zoey), and Ava Trovata; great-grandchildren, Sophia Smith, Bella Smith, Easton Billups, and Madden Billups; niece, Ashley Vento (Kenny); and numerous great-nieces and nephews.

A service will be held to honor Joey's life at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, December 29, 2025, at the John M. Oakey and Son Chapel in Salem, with Pastor Randall ("Hooter") Horton officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until the hour of the service.
