Obituary

Joseph Tornquist Trolier, 70, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on July 6, 2026, surrounded by those he loved. While our hearts are broken by his absence, we rejoice knowing he is fully restored, completely healed, and finally home in the presence of the One he faithfully served.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Beck Trolier and Alice Dorothy Trolier.

He is survived by his faithful and devoted wife, Amy Reynolds Trolier, whose unwavering love, strength, and faithful care carried him through every season of their life together.

He also leaves behind the children he could not have been more proud of: Jennifer and Derrick Alleven, Zack Trolier, Natalie Trolier and Will Nauta, and Joey Trolier.

Joe was a proud grandfather to Lucy and Georgia Alleven.

He is also survived by his siblings, Peggy Trolier Gorman and Allan Gorman, Steven Trolier, and Judi Trolier Gaudio and Greg Gaudio, along with many beloved nieces, nephews, extended family members, and an incredible circle of friends who faithfully walked beside him throughout his life.

Born with a servant's heart and an incredible work ethic, Joe graduated from Robert E. Peary High School in Rockville, Maryland, before earning his bachelor's degree from Milligan College in Tennessee.

Anyone who knew Joe knew there wasn't much he couldn't do. He truly was a jack of all trades. Throughout his life, he worked in pest control, crafted custom eyeglass frames, spent several years at Procter & Gamble, collected coal in the mountains of West Virginia, and eventually founded Creekside Construction. No matter the job, Joe gave it everything he had.

Outside of work, Joe embraced life with enthusiasm, curiosity, and plenty of laughter and shenanigans. He was a devoted Virginia Tech Hokies and Baltimore Orioles fan and often claimed he bore a striking resemblance to Cal Ripken Jr. While we're fairly certain Joe was the one who started that rumor, it certainly made us smile.

He was legendary when it came to negotiating at yard sales and loved racquetball so much that he once played an entire match wearing golf shoes after forgetting his sneakers. That was Joe. Resourceful, determined, and always good for a laugh.

Music was one of Joe's greatest passions. Whether he was playing percussion with the worship band at Christian Life International or performing with the Sway Katz, many knew him simply as "Conga Joe." His love for music was contagious, and the joy he brought through it will be remembered for years to come.

Joe also found happiness in life's simple pleasures. He loved working in the yard, watching the birds, putting together puzzles, and somehow believing the border pieces could wait until later, something the rest of us never quite understood. One of Joe's favorite places was Hilton Head, where some of his most treasured memories were made alongside family and friends. Whether it was sharing meals, laughing together, or simply enjoying time on the beach, those moments meant the world to him. Weekly lunches with his dear friends Roger and Tom also became one of the highlights of his week and were times he genuinely looked forward to.

Although Joe's life included many challenges, his faith never wavered. He faced each season with perseverance, hope, and a confidence that God was always in control. His life was a testimony to trusting the Lord, loving others well, and finding joy in every circumstance.

Our family would like to extend our deepest gratitude to the incredible teams at VCU GI Hepatology and Liver Transplant Team, Enhabit Home Health, Blue Ridge Cancer Care, and especially the compassionate staff at the Good Samaritan Sheila S. Strauss Hospice House. The care, comfort, and love you showed Joe and our family during his final days will never be forgotten.

We would also like to thank the countless family members, friends, neighbors, church family, and prayer warriors who have loved and supported us throughout this journey. Over the past several years, you have carried us in ways you may never fully realize. Through every appointment, setback, answered prayer, victory, and difficult day, you showed up with meals, visits, phone calls, prayers, encouragement, and faithful support. Your kindness has been a constant reminder of God's faithfulness, and we will never be able to thank you enough.

A Celebration of Joe's Life will be held on Saturday, July 25, 2026, at 4:00 p.m. at John M. Oakey & Son in Salem. The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. prior to the service. We invite all who knew and loved Joe to join us as we celebrate his life and the legacy he leaves behind.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Good Samaritan Sheila S. Strauss Hospice House. The Hospice House became a place of incredible peace, compassion, and kindness, where Joe spent his final days surrounded by exceptional care and the love of his family and friends. Memorial donations may be made directly through their website at goodsam.care

Joe will be remembered for his deep faith, generous heart, quick wit, love of music, hardworking spirit, and his remarkable ability to find joy in life's simplest moments. More than anything, he loved the Lord, loved his family, and lived a life that pointed others toward both. Though we will miss him deeply, we rejoice in the promise that he is whole,
