Joseph Edward Catron, 77, of Salem, passed away on Wednesday, June 15, 2011. He was born in Wytheville to the late James Reed and Lula Catron. Professionally, he drove for Hennis Freight Lines for 15 years and later retired from Kroger after 12 years. He loved his farming tractor collection and enjoyed hunting. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his brother, Jim Catron. His surviving family includes his wife of 50 years, Louise Catron of Salem; daughter, Grace Switzer of New Castle; very special granddaughter, Ella Switzer of New Castle; and sisters, Betty Snider of Roanoke, Irene Umberger and husband, Butch, of Wytheville, and Mary Lou Dean and husband, Bill, of Wytheville. A period of visitation will be held on Sunday, June 19, 2011 from 6 to 8 p.m. in the John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home in Salem. A funeral service will be held on Monday, June 20, 2011 at 11 a.m. in the funeral homes chapel. Interment will follow at Sherwood Memorial Park in Salem. The Rev. Ken Nienke will officiate.
