John Austin Peery

John Austin Peery, 66, of Salem, passed away on Saturday, February 9, 2013. He was born on November 16, 1946 in Tazewell, VA, son of the late Austin Marshall and Elora Waldron Peery. John was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Salem. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather, and one who received respect from all who knew him. In addition to his parents, John is preceded in death by a son, Austin Eugene Peery; and brother, Marshall Sonny Peery. He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Carolyn Peery; sons, Adam Peery and wife Carrie, and Travis Peery; daughter, Stephanie Roberts; sister, Millie Proffitt and husband Billy; seven grandchildren; and special friends from VDOT and the Masonic Lodge in Salem. The family will receive friends on Monday, February 11, 2013 from 6 pm to 8 pm at the John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home in Salem. A Funeral Service honoring Johns life will be held on Tuesday, February 12, 2013 at 2 pm in the funeral home chapel, where masonic rights will also be conducted by Taylor Masonic lodge 23.
