John Wesley Payne Sr., 42, of Vinton, went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Thursday, January 10, 2013, at Roanoke Memorial Hospital.
He was born August 8, 1970, the son of the late Jack Clark Payne Sr. and Mary Ellen Firestone Chitwood, of Vinton. John was a true man of God, a minister of the Church of God of Cleveland, Tenn. He was a Private First Class of the National Guard. He was a graduate of ECPI, with an Associates Degree. He was currently the Parts Manager for Trident Seafood Group.
He is survived by his son, John Wesley Payne Jr. and wife, Charitee, of Bedford; his mother, Mary Ellen Firestone Chitwood and Donnie Chitwood, of Vinton; brothers, Elijah Clark Payne Sr. and wife, Lisa, of Charlotte, N.C., Jack Clark Payne Jr. and Melissa, of Boonesboro, Md., Paul Wells Jr., of Rocky Mt., Clyde Belton Jr., of Vinton; sisters, Judy Underwood and husband, Ron, of Vinton, Elizabeth Akers and husband, Bowen, of Rocky Mt.; two grandchildren and many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m. Tuesday, January 15, 2012, at The House of Prayer, with Pastor Gary Butcher officiating. Interment will follow in Sherwood Memorial Park, Salem. The family will receive friends 7 to 9 p.m. Monday, January 14, 2013 at The House of Prayer, 2521 Portland Ave. N.W., Roanoke, Va.
