John D. Kleven was born in Beloit, Wisconsin on June 7, 1929, and passed away at his home in Salem, Virginia on November 7, 2023, at the age of 94. He was predeceased by his parents, Sven and Eva; sister, Ginny and son-in-law, Jim. John is survived by his wife of 67 years, Helen; children, Jack (Robin), Cari (Jim), and Lynn (John); three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. His extended family includes families living in Arizona, California, Florida, Illinois and Wisconsin.
John served his country in Korea. Following his discharge from the Army, he entered the University of Wisconsin Stout, receiving a degree in Industrial Arts Education. He enjoyed a long career in Industrial Sales and College Development, retiring as Director of Planned Giving at Randolph Macon College in Ashland, Virginia.
Following his retirement, John and Helen relocated to Salem, Virginia. For over 20 years, he was active at Christ Lutheran Church and Habitat for Humanity, Roanoke.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to Habitat for Humanity, Christ Lutheran Church, or Good Samaritan Hospice. A celebration of John's life will be conducted on Tuesday, December 5, 2023, at 2 p.m. at the Christ Lutheran Church, 2011 Brandon Ave., Roanoke. A reception will follow.
