John Frederick Haase, Jr., of Salem, Virginia, passed away on September 2, 2026, after a brief battle with cancer. John was born in Roanoke, Va., on October 27, 1946, to the late Margaret Catherine Murphy and John Frederick Haase, Sr.

John was a proud Navy veteran who earned multiple medals for his service in Vietnam. After his service, he attended college at East Carolina University where he received a degree in physical therapy. He continued his education with a master’s degree from the University of Baltimore. He enjoyed a 20-year career with the VA Medical Center helping his fellow veterans before retiring. John continued helping people in his community by providing physical therapy in private practice after his retirement. John enjoyed restoring antique cars, woodworking, doing home improvement projects with his wife, and spending time with his family and beloved dogs, Finn and Chloe. He was a huge sports enthusiast and tried to never miss a Pirates game. We find comfort knowing that John is forever spending time with his dogs Sadie, Molly, Max, and Spikey in Heaven.

John is survived by his beloved wife of 31 years, Pamela Dunaway Haase; daughters, Kelly Haase-Eam (Sam), Lori Haase Alasantro (Kaden), Hope Bane Kvasnicka (Tony), Marty Dawn Bane Smith (Damien); son, Wesley Harold Bane; John will be truly missed by his 15 grandchildren. Also surviving are his brothers, Thomas A. Haase (Kate), Joseph A. Haase (Petie), and their families.

In honoring John’s direct wishes, no formal services or memorial will take place. Those who knew and loved John are encouraged to reflect on their memories of him and celebrate his life in their own special way.
