John Fredrick Jackson, age 85 of Roanoke, went to be with the Lord on Friday, February 11, 2011. He was born on September 6, 1925 in Massac Co. Illinois to the late Taus, & Hope McCartney Jackson. After serving his country in the U.S. Army he moved to Virginia where he was employed with Piedmont Airlines as a pilot. In addition to his dedication as an employee with Piedmont, he served over 40 years volunteering in the Civil Air Patrol and made rank of Lieutenant Colonel prior to retiring his service. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Jackson, and a brother, Bill Jackson. He is survived by one son, Rodger Jackson, & wife Gayle, and beloved grandson, Dakota Jackson, all of Roanoke. A graveside service will be conducted on Tuesday, February 15, 2011 at 3 p.m. at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Roanoke, where military rights will also be conducted. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. on Monday, February 14, 2011 at John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home, Salem.
