John Carroll Capito Jr.

John Carroll J.C. Capito, Jr., 73. of Salem, passed away Friday, January 11, 2013 following a long illness. He was preceded in death by his parents, John Carroll Capito, Sr. and Claudine Spencer Capito, and grandparents, John Richard Capito and Lula Couch Capito. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Margaret Susie Buchanan Capito; two daughters, Lisa Capito and Lesley Capito Bircher and her husband Christopher; a granddaughter, Jena Bircher, and mother-in-law, Vivian Sarver Buchanan. Also surviving is a son from a previous marriage, Edward Eddie Capito; grandchildren, Keri Capito, Daniel Capito and Katie Capito, and two great-grandchildren, David Capito and Kira Conner. J.C. served in the U.S. Air Force, and was a sales representative for Valleydale and Armour serving southwest Virginia for many years. He was also the owner and operator of Capito Properties in Salem and was active in that business until 2005. He had a great love of automobiles, especially sports cars and oval track racing, but in his later years spent most of his time bird watching, spending time at his beach cottage, and spending time with his family and his dog, Tequila Sunrise, Tequi. Funeral services will be held at 2PM, Tuesday, January 15, 2013 at the Chapel of John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home, Salem. The Revs. Todd Meyer and Barbara Murray will officiate. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8PM, Monday at the funeral home.
