John Wesley Butterworth Sr.

John Wesley Butterworth, Sr., 64, of Roanoke, was taken home on Monday, August 11, 2014. A native and lifelong area resident, he was the son of the late Roy Wesley Butterworth, Sr. and Rachel Poff Butterworth. He was employed as a paving supervisor with L.H. Sawyer Paving Company for over 40 years and was truly the hands that paved Roanoke. John, being hard headed and right 99% of the time, taught his children lots of lessons and common sense. He enjoyed Hunting Fishing and NASCAR. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, John Wesley Butterworth, Jr. He is survived by his former wife of 30 years, Janena Kay Butterworth; a son, Travis Butterworth; two daughters, Tracy Butterworth-Huffman and Breanna Butterworth; three grandchildren, Aryana Cox, Alizabeth Bailey and Emma Huffman; two brothers, including William Sherman Butterworth; seven sisters, many nieces and nephews, and his many loyal friends and neighbors at the Frontier Apartment Complex. A memorial service will be held at 12PM, Friday, August 15, 2014 at Sherwood Memorial Park Abby. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service.
