Joan Epperly Walters

Joan Epperly Walters, 79, of Salem, passed away on Tuesday, July 15, 2014, in Clifton Forge, VA. She was born on October 22, 1934, in Patterson, NJ to the late John Henry and Octavia Ellen Epperly. Mom was a very hardworking, loving, and sweet woman, and someone you just enjoyed being around; at least until you crossed her! She loved her children and grandchildren, and she will remain in our hearts until we meet again! In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Bob and John Epperly. Family remaining to cherish her memory includes her husband, Jerry Fernatt; sons, Steven (Tony) Walters and wife, Becky, Donald E. Walters, and John Edward Walters and wife Patricia; grandchildren, Kelsey, Tara, Joci and Jace; and numerous nieces nephews and cousins. The family will receive friends on Friday, July 18, 2014, from 6 until 8 p.m. at John M. Oakey & Son funeral home in Salem. Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, July 19, 2014, at 11 a.m. in the funeral home chapel. Interment will follow in Sherwood Memorial Park in Salem.
