Jimmy W. Robertson of Salem passed away at the age of 88, leaving behind a legacy of faith, service, and devotion to family and community.
Born in New Castle, Virginia, Jimmy spent most of his life in Salem following his service in the United States Army, where he was stationed in South Carolina. After completing his military service, he built a successful career with Dominion Bank, remaining there until his retirement.
Retirement marked the beginning of one of Jimmy's most cherished roles-that of devoted grandfather. Alongside his beloved wife, Peggy, he helped raise and nurture his grandchildren, faithfully attending Parks & Recreation practices and games, school sporting events, and dance recitals. His presence, encouragement, and unwavering support were gifts that his family will treasure forever.
Jimmy was deeply committed to serving his community. He served several terms on the Salem Planning Commission and was a faithful member of Ridgewood Baptist Church, where he served as Chairman of the Deacons. Known for his strong work ethic and willingness to help others, Jimmy loved working with his hands, caring for his lawn, and cheering on Salem High School sports teams. Whether it was a football game or a basketball game, he was rarely absent from the stands.
Above all, Jimmy was a dedicated husband, father, granddaddy, and great-grandaddy. He loved people and never hesitated to lend a helping hand to anyone in need.
Jimmy is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Peggy S. Robertson; daughter-in-law, Tonya Robertson; grandchildren, Tyler Robertson (Cheyenne) and Tori Sheffield (Joe); and great-grandchildren, Juliet, Aspen, and Bowie Robertson.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Carol Oliver; and his beloved son, William Todd Robertson, who met him at Heaven's gates for a joyful reunion and celebration.
Jimmy was a loved and admired member of the Salem community whose example of faith, kindness, and service will continue to inspire all who knew him.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, June 16, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Ridgewood Baptist Church, 703 Hemlock Road, Roanoke, Virginia. Visitation with the family will begin one hour prior to the service at 10:00 a.m. A graveside service will follow at Sherwood Memorial Park. Friends and family are invited to attend and celebrate Jimmy's life.
Jimmy will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all whose lives he touched.
