Jewell Campbell Epperly Pannell

Jewell Pannell, age 92, of Salem, Va., went to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, January 2, 2018. She was predeceased by her husbands, Harless Epperly and JC Pannell; and her son, Bill Epperly. She was the last surviving of four siblings. She is survived by her daughter, Jean Ellen Brogan of Fuquay-Varina, N.C.; step-daughter, Linda Thomas (RL) of Pulaski, Va.; and step-son, Jim Pannell (Carol) of Frisco, Texas. She was blessed with 11 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren. Jewell was born on Tuesday, January 27, 1925. She worked in retail most of her life, lastly working 20 years at JC Penny in the cosmetics department, before retiring. Jewell was a charter member of Grace Baptist Church where she loved her church family and served in Awanas, taught Sunday School, sang in the choir, and loved organizing church fellowships. Almost daily, until the age of 88, Jewell spent many mornings walking at the mall followed by drinking cups of warm coffee with dear friends. She was the epitome of beauty both inside and out. She was full of grace, understanding, patience, fiercely independent, and very loving. She had a wonderful sense of humor and would often shock you with her wit. Most of all, Jewell had a personal relationship with Christ whom she deeply loved and served. A period of visitation will begin at 1 p.m. on Saturday, January 6, 2018, at New Grace Baptist Church located at 1527 Gilford Ave, NW in Roanoke, Va. 24017. The funeral service will then begin at 2 p.m. Burial will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jewells honor to Meals on Wheels, which provided invaluable help to Jewell in a time of need.
