Jerry Kenneth Oyler

Jerry Kenneth Oyler, 68 of Rocky Mount; formerly of Salem, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, January 5, 2012. He was born on July 15, 1943 to the late John Hampton, and Ida N. Oyler. Mr. Oyler will be remembered for his love of fishing and playing golf, and for his role in the community, as he was the owner and operator of Security Detention Equipment, Inc., Rocky Mount, Va. He was a member of Mt. Ivy Christian Church, located in Moneta, Va., where he recently served as elder and chairman of the deacon committee. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brother, Lewis Nichols. Surviving to cherish his memory include his wife of 46 years, Virginia Jenny Lester Oyler; daughter and son-in-law, Yvonne O. Lee and husband Todd; grandson, Dalton H. Lee, and a special friend, Matthew Spangler. Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 9, 2012 at 10 a.m. at the John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home in Salem with Pastor Steve Pasley and Pastor Joe Slone officiating. Burial will follow at Sherwood Memorial Park, Salem.
