Jerry Lee Roy Bush, Grandad, 77, of Roanoke, Va., but originally from Mt. Pleasant in Roanoke County, has left his earthly body to live eternally with the Lord Jesus Christ, on Monday, April 17, 2023, while doing what he loved and preparing his garden for spring planting. Born in Roanoke on January 10, 1946, to the late Roy Andrew and Berdie Jacobs Bush, he is also proceeded in death by his loving wife of 44 years, Judy Don Bush; grandson, Jerry Lee (J.T.) Turner, as well as four brothers and five sisters.
Jerry was a simple man with a huge heart! If anyone so much as mentioned having a need or wanting something, he would make sure they had it. He loved his church family and was a devoted member of Goodwin Memorial United Methodist Church where he gave generously of his time and tithes, serving with the food pantry, Meals on Wheels, and other outreach opportunities. He seldom passed a yard sale where he didnt stop and, always thinking of others, he seemed to always pick up something that somebody could use. Jerry loved bluegrass music and looked forward to going to Galax to the Fiddlers Convention. He loved growing a garden and planting lots of beautiful flowers with his late wife; on weekends in the summer, you could find him at the Salem Farmers Market selling produce. He worked many years for the City of Salem Street Department and made many life-long friendships along the way. He was even known to have his daughter, Rene, picked up from school in a trash truck in front of her friends! He enjoyed hunting and being in the woods, so much so that he and his buddies from the Street Department converted a retired school bus into a hunting cabin on wheels. Above all, he adored his family, especially his grandkids, was a great friend, and was devoted to his late wife, Judy, and went to the cemetery daily to visit after her passing.
Those left to cherish his memory are his daughter, Rene (Robert) Duncan; son, Buddy Lytton; grandchildren, Leigh (Rami) Danil, Vanessa (Jamie) Hooks, Brittany (Jake) Shelton, and Travis Turner; great-grandchildren, Chandler, Ava, James, Lilly, Noah, Josh, Brooklyn, Izzy, and Margo; brother, Bobby (Bonnie) Bush; sister, Suzie (Chester) McCoy; numerous nieces and nephews as well as special friends, Denise Duncan, Sherry Fuller, and his loving church family.
The family will welcome friends on Sunday, April 23, 2023, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the chapel of John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home, Salem.
