Jeremy R. "Titanic" Dixon

Jeremy Titanic Dixon, Flemings #1 Fan, 38, of Roanoke, Va., passed away on Monday, June 29, 2020, at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born May 24, 1982, to Donna Marie Wells and the late Ralph Junior Dixon. Serving as mascot for the William Fleming Colonels, it was to no surprise to anyone, as for the love he had for his school. So much that he mentioned, numerous times in conversation with his mom, that he did not want to graduate. From ninth grade through his senior year of 2001, Jeremy rarely missed any Fleming sports event. His dedication a love for school awarded him the Most Spirited Colonel Award and was officially recognized as William Flemings #1 Fan. He would often visit his team in the football locker room following games, to offer words of encouragement and praise; win or lose. He continued cheering on his beloved Colonels up until 2017, at the point of his diagnosis of Huntingtons disease. He never allowed the disease to take away his love for his school or his family. Being that Jeremys favorite movie was Titanic; a story of disaster, Jeremy decided to nickname himself just that, Titanic. To fulfill his desire to personally meet the Virginia Tech Hokies Mascot, Coach George Miller drove him to Blacksburg, home of the Hokies, to meet the Hokie Bird. This absolutely made his day! In 2020, Jeremy was nominated for the William Fleming High School Hall of Fame for his dedication as the Colonel Mascot. His love for his school, friends, and family will always be cherished. In addition to his father. Jeremy was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Richard King and Jean Roberts. Left to cherish his memory is his mother, Donna Marie Wells (Billy), of Roanoke, Va.; brother, Daniel Wells, of Shawsville, Va.; sister, Shannon BeCraft, of Va.; uncles, Mike King, of Salem, Va. and Bobby Roberts, of Shawsville, Va.. Also, special to Jeremy include his nurses, Regina and Lorrie, as well as his caregiver, Brittany. The family will receive friends on Thursday, July 2, 2020, from 6 until 8 p.m. at John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home in Salem. Face masks, in exception for medical reasons, as well as social distancing will be required. Due to mandatory restrictions set forth from the COVID-19 outbreak, and to accommodate the maximum number allowed, in person attendance of the funeral service will be private.
