Janice Louise Jones, of Salem, Va., passed away on Saturday, May 9, 2026, following a long battle with Parkinson’s. She was 79 years old.
Janice was born to the late Roy and Anna Mae “Rakes” Underwood on Monday, September 23, 1946. In addition to her parents, Janice was preceded in death by her sister, Dorothy Mae Overstreet; grandson, Dakota Ray Lloyd; and a special friend, Peggy Uglow.
Janice loved her family deeply. She enjoyed taking trips with her loved ones to visit the beach, and she adored spending time with her beloved canine companion, “Luna.” She will be deeply missed, most of all by her loving family.
Left to cherish Janice’s memory are her children, Anthony Lloyd and wife, Dawn, and Kevin Lloyd and wife, Deedee; grandchildren, Kyle Lloyd and Dalton Lloyd; brothers, Tom Underwood and wife, Marilyn, Roy Underwood and partner, Bonnie, and Donnie Underwood and wife, Carolyn; niece, Darlene Wade; and nephew, Todd Gearheart.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., in the chapel of John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home in Salem. A service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 14, 2026, in the funeral home chapel, with Pastor Chuck Garner officiating. Interment will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens.
The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the staff of the Lewis-Gale SICU for their care and comfort during this difficult time.
