Janice Pearl Oxley Atkinson, 93, of Salem, passed away on Saturday, September 30, 2017.
She was born on Sunday, September 28, 1924 to the late Elbert Lee and Bessie Alvis Oxley. Her church membership was held at Christian Life International where she served faithfully. Everyone who knew her called her Nana. Her life reflected her legacy Jesus, family, and church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence W. Atkinson; a son who was killed in Vietnam, Roger D. Atkinson; four sisters; and three brothers.
Left to cherish her memory is a son, Mark R. Atkinson (Ponza); daughter, Sandy A. Anderson (Walt); four grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two nieces; and two nephews.
The family extends special thanks to the staff and friends at Salem Terrace Assisted Living for their love, care, and service.
Periods of visitation will take place from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, October 5, 2017, in the John M. Oakey & Son Chapel in Salem. Her funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Friday, October 6, 2017, at Christian Life International Church located at 1 CLI Way in Salem with Rev. Kenneth Kingrea, Rev. Debbie Hutton, and Rev. Ryan Linkous officiating. Interment will immediately follow at Piedmont Cemetery in Shawsville.
