Janice Carol "Jan" Adkins

Janice Jan Nelson Adkins, 77, of Salem, passed away on Monday, March 14, 2022, in Charlottesville, Virginia. She was born on February 11, 1945, in Johnson City, TN, but spent much of her life here in the Roanoke Valley and considered Salem her hometown. Those left to cherish Jans memory are her loving husband, Walter Gene Adkins; sons, Mike Adkins and Kayla Stevers, and Mark Adkins and wife, Ann; grandchildren, Joshua Adkins and fiance, Megan Wood, and Ashlyn Adkins; her sister, Rixine Taliaferro, and very close friends, Betty Custer, and Rita Gwaltney. The family will receive friends on Thursday, March 17, 2022, from 6 to 8 PM, in the upper parlor of John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home, Salem. A graveside service will be held on Friday, March 18, at 2 PM, at Sherwood Memorial Park, with Chaplain Dave Vanderpool officiating.
