Jane A. Maxwell of Salem, Virginia, died August 12, 2011. She was the daughter of Carney and Nellie (Hiatt) Armentrout and was born September 9, 1917 in Randolph County, West Virginia. She was educated in the Elkins, WV public schools and graduated from Davis and Elkins College with a bachelors degree in chemistry. Jane married Dr. Maurice H. Maxwell, and lived the life of a small town doctors wife in Moorefield, West Virginia. Without her, Dr. Maxwell would have been incapable of the nearly forty years of selfless medical service which he rendered to their community. Jane was a committed member of Duffey Memorial United Methodist Church, and served in many leadership capacities both there and in other civic and social organizations. She was involved in the creation and operation of the Hardy County Heritage Weekend, when local historic home tours and craft exhibitions still draw in numbers of people to support local projects. After the death of her husband, Jane moved to Salem. She joined First United Methodist Church, and became involved in other activities in her new community. Jane was extraordinary in her faith and in her ability to find the positive in all of lifes events. She was the mother of two sons who will never forget her strength of character, love of life, sense of values, and her dedication to family and friends. She is survived by her sons Maurice H. Maxwell, Jr. and his wife, Rebecca, and William C. Maxwell and his wife, Rosemary, her sister, Nancy A. Lang, three grandchildren and four great grandchildren. A private graveside service in Keiser, W.V. will be conducted at a later date. Family and friends wishing to offer condolences may do so by visiting her online obituary at www.johnmoakey.com. John M. Oakey and Son Funeral Home, & Crematory is serving the Maxwell family, (540) 389-5441.
