James Oscar Shorter

James O. Shorter, 87, of Salem, Va., went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, October 23, 2018. Mr. Shorter had worked for Aaron J. Conner Construction for nearly 50 years, and was a faithful and active member of CommUNITY Church. Preceding him in death was his wife of 45 years, Lorine Shorter. His surviving family includes his son, James A. Shorter and Candis; special friend, Tammy; and many other friends including his friends with the church. A period of visitation will take place from 6 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, October 28, 2018, at the John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home in Salem. The funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Monday, October 29, 2018, in the funeral homes chapel with Pastor Tom McCracken, Pastor Dan Carawan, and Pastor Josh Kelly officiating.
