James D. Roope, 57, of Salem, passed away on Tuesday April 30, 2013 He was born in Baltimore MD. A son to the late James Lester and Mabel Frances Roope, an area resident most of his life, many of the roads and bridges we travel on are from the hard work of James, from the years he worked for VDOT, when he was not working he loved the outdoors, hunting and fishing, he was well known as a natural musician and loved to play the guitar. Along with his parents he is preceded in death by two sisters, Barbara Weaver, and Frances Hall, left to cherish his memories are his wife, Merry Alice Roope, his son, James Ashley Roope, two step-sons, Joseph Paul Sisson and Jacob Andrew Sisson, his wife Pam, sister Patricia Edwards, her husband J.P., a grandchild Neville Sisson, a host of nieces and nephews; and father-in-law, Raymond Coldwell. The family will receive friends on Thursday May 2, 2013 from 4 to 8 pm at John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home, Salem, a funeral service to honor the life of James D. Roope, will take place on Friday May 3, 2013 at 1:00 pm in the Chapel of the Funeral Home, with Pastor Melvin presiding, interment will follow the service at Butts Family Cemetery, Salem, an online guest book is available by visiting www.johnmoakey.com
