James Larry Reid

James (Jimmy) L. Reid, 61 of Salem, passed away Saturday, July 19, 2014 after a courageous year-long battle with cancer. He was born October 18, 1952 to the late Charles and Nellie Reid. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Howard Reid; and brother-in-law, David Pumphrey. Family left to cherish his memory include his loving wife, Thea Reid; sisters, Nancy Blankenship and husband Donald, Nellie Pumphrey, Betty Lanham and husband John, and Peggy Reid; brothers, David Reid and wife Brenda, Charles Reid and wife Janet, and Roger Reid; and special nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews. Jimmy was deeply loved and will be greatly missed. The family wishes to express special thanks to Dr. Richard and his staff at Blue Ridge Cancer Care and to Amedisys nurses Jewel, Jill, and Glenda for their loving care. The family will receive friends on Monday, July 21, 2014 from 12 until 2 p.m. at John M. Oakey & Son funeral home in Salem. A funeral service to honor Jimmys life will follow at 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Don Woodward officiating. Interment will follow in Sherwood Memorial Park in Salem.
