James C. Rakow, 72, of Roanoke and formerly of St. Pete, FL, passed on Friday, September 25, 2015. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence C. and Ruth Marie Rakow; and sister, Mary Lindsay.
James was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. After serving in the Coast Guard, James began his career with the CIA. He retired after 30 years of service. He was an avid fisherman, highly skilled skeet shooter, and loved to duck hunt.
Family left to cherish his memory include his loving wife of 47 years, Rosalie Rakow; daughters, Marie Emmerson and husband Bryan, and Jennifer Brown and husband Zack; grandchildren, Corynne and Braden Emmerson, and Lyndsay, Patrick, Colin, and Kaila Brown; and siblings, Richard Rakow, Carol Gehringer, and Charles Rakow.
A memorial service to honor James' life will be held on Thursday, October 1, 2015 at 4 p.m. in the John M. Oakey & Son Chapel. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service.
