James Eduard Mech, of Roanoke, formerly of Lombard, IL, passed away on Thursday, January 5, 2012. He was born in Lombard, IL, to the late William and Myra Mech. Jim left us on earth, but will never leave our hearts. He was the ultimate team mate in every endeavor. He averaged more than 32 points per game at St. Marys High School where he received the name of Mr. Basketball in Iowa before accepting a scholarship to play basketball for Creighton University. Two years later Jim decided to join the U.S. Air Force and once again the accolades continued in letters to home. Upon his honorable discharge Jim decided he wanted to be a family man, and became superintendent of several Southeastern meat companies. Those remaining to cherish his memory include his wife, Linda Mech; sons, Jim Mech and wife Jennifer, Mike Mech and wife Sherri, David Mech and wife Elisa; daughter, Jennifer Mech; sister, Gerry Whitney, brother-in-aw, Phillip Harris and wife Rita; sister-in-law; Martha Morgan and husband Doug; ten grandchildren; one great-grandchild, numerous nieces and nephews. Father-in-law and special friend, Glenn Harris and wife Darlene, and mother-in-law and special friend, Thelma Harris also survive. The family has requested that services remain private. An online guestbook has been set up under Mr. Mechs name at www.johnmoakey.com.
