James Demorse Martin, 84, of Roanoke, passed away on Sunday, February 9, 2014. He was a Disabled American Veteran having served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Professionally, he drove limousines and taxicabs for many years. He was a loving uncle to a nephew and many nieces. Preceding him in death were his parents, Walter and LuLu Martin. His surviving family includes his nephew, Gary Martin and wife, Rose; nieces, Vickie Montoro, Leane Black and husband, Michael, Florence Scott and husband, Robert, and Celia Hammond; three great-nieces, Katherine Ferguson, Krystle Black, and Lisa Hammond; and very close friend, Jane Sluss. A period of visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 12, 2014 from 1 to 2 p.m. in the John M. Oakey & Son Chapel in Salem. A funeral service celebrating his life will then begin at 2 p.m. with Chaplain Dave Vanderpool officiating. Interment will immediately follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens in Roanoke.
