James E. Kirby III, 54, of Roanoke and formerly of Richmond, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, November 16, 2010. James was a proud Veteran having served his country in the US Army. He held memberships with the Valley Christian Church in Fincastle as well as the Christian Motorcyclists Association. This special husband, father, brother, grandfather, and special friend loved the Lord. Preceding him in death was his grandmother, Grandma Kirby; and mother, Carolyn Kirby. His surviving family includes his wife of 4 years, Atlanta Kirby; children, Rachel Lynn Buchanan, Jon Edwards, Skie Mire, and Stephanie Mire; grandchildren, Dillon, Andrew, Samantha, Mary Jane, and Jon; sister, Jan Kirby; many other family members including a cousin, Karen Kirby; and a special friend who was like a brother, Tim Scaggs. A period of visitation will be held on Friday, November 19, 2010 from 6 to 8 p.m. in the John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home in Salem. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, November 20, 2010 at 11 a.m. in the funeral homes chapel. Interment will be held at Sherwood Memorial Park with military honors. Preacher Bob Brown and Preacher Johnnie Tickle will officiate. In lieu of flowers, donations made in James name may be made to the Valley Christian Food Bank at 32 Shavers Farm Road in Fincastle, VA 24090.
