James Rodney "Jim" Helms Jr.

James Rodney Helms, Jr, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, December 10, 2023, at his home. Jim was born on Wednesday, November 29, 1933, to the late Lois Argenbright Helms and James Rodney Helms, Sr, in Roanoke, VA. When the call of the country was heard, Jim served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps. He and his wife Fran were members of both the Dale Ridge and Star City Church of Christ. On Sunday morning Jim was planning to take a trip, however, the destination changed to Paradise, Heaven, where he was greeted by his wife, Mary W. Helms. He is survived by his, daughter, Ruth Carter, and husband, Michael; son, Jim Helms; grandchildren, Channing Carter, Kayla Carter, Noah Helms, and Elisha Carter; brother, John Helms; special family friends, Danny and Margaret Sprouse and their family, Jason, Crissy, and Brynn Gentry, and many other loving friends. A celebration of his life will be held at 3 p.m. on Friday, December 15, 2023, at the John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home in Salem, VA, with Bro. Danny Sprouse officiating.
