James Aubrey Roberts

James A. Roberts, 80, of Salem, Va., passed away on Wednesday, January 25, 2023. He was born on Sunday, December 13, 1942, to the late Aubrey and Juanita Roberts. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a son, James A. Roberts, Jr. James served in the US Navy for 10 years. He later worked for the DC Government for 11 years as Chief Engineer at a water treatment plant. Before retiring in 2005, he worked for Realty Management as Chief Engineer. Those left to cherish his memories are his loving wife, Debra; brother-in-law, Wayne Day; and sister-in-law, Virginia Gesford. His surviving sons family is made up of his son, Raymond Anthony and wife, Donna; grandchildren, Adam, Casey, Matthew, Jacob, and Emily; and great-grandchildren, Adam, Jr., Annabelle, Sagon Anthony Lang, Aubrey Ernestine Herzfeld, Shia Roberts, and Ewan, Lincoln, and Otto Roberts. His first surviving daughters family is made up of his daughter, Betty Baker; grandchildren, Krystal Mundy and husband, Shan, Amber and husband, Malcom, and Austin; and great-grandchildren, Hailee, Madysn, Ariana, and Gavaan Austin. His second surviving daughters family is made up of his daughter, Bonnie Carpenter and husband, James; grandson, Brandon; granddaughter, Vanessa Lamb and husband, Tim; and great-granddaughters, Briella and Adaline. Also surviving is a stepdaughter, Nicole Howes; and grandchildren, Olivia and Michael. A period of visitation will take place from 2 to 4 p.m. on Tuesday, January 31, 2023, at the John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home in Salem, Va. A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, February 1, 2023, in the funeral homes chapel. Interment will follow at Church Hill Cemetery. Rev. Louis W. Glockner will officiate. In lieu of flowers, charitable contributions may be made to the Vinton VFW Post 4522 at 117 East Lee Street in Vinton, Va. 24179.
