Jackie Lee Thompson, 80, of Roanoke, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, June 16, 2012. He was born in Salt Sulphur Springs, WV, the son of the late Howard D. Thompson and Elsie Turner Thompson and had been an area resident since 1959. He received his Bachelors Degree from Concord University and also attended the University of Tennessee. He was employed as Claims Manager with Shenandoah Life Insurance Company for over 30 years, and as a driver for The Park Oak Grove for more than 20 years. He was a member of Grace Church where he served as a Deacon and was a member of the Executive Council of the Concord University Alumni Association. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Henry Collins. He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Delores Ann Payne Thompson; two sons, Jackie Bryan Thompson and wife Shirley, Robert Daniel Thompson and wife Angie; three daughters, Andrea Dee Schwenke and husband Terry, Cynthia Rae Loving and husband Todd, Kristie Elaine Thompson; ten grandchildren, Nicole and Jeffrey Schwenke; Raymond, Benjamin and Sarah Loving; Jethro, Tigerlilly and Tazewell Thompson; Sonya Westervelt and her husband Paul; Carolyn Lepper, and two great grandchildren, Jenna and Jacob Matthews and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Funeral Services will be held at 11a.m., Wednesday, June 20, 2012 at Grace Church, 2731 Edgewood St. SW, Roanoke, VA. Pastor Tim Martin will officiate. Burial will follow at Sherwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, June 19, 2012 at John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home, Salem, VA. In lieu of flowers, you may make a donation to the Grace Church Missions Fund, Samaritans Purse or the American Heart Association.
