Jack K. Spruhan, 86, long-time resident of Salem, passed away Thursday, October 6, 2011. He was born in Salem, VA and took great pride in being a native Salemite. A son of the late Guy H. Spruhan, Sr. and Wanetah Kleiser Spruhan, he had also resided in South Carolina prior to relocating to the Salem area many years ago. A graduate of Virginia Tech, Jack was an avid Hokie. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of WWII and was employed with the Liberty Mutual Insurance Company for over 36 years prior to retiring. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Salem, a lifetime member of the Salem Rotary Club and was Supervisor of Officiating for ODAC for over ten years. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a brother, Guy H. Spruhan, Jr. He is survived by his loving wife, Peggy Wells Spruhan; two daughters, Patricia S. Guilds and Cynthia S. Kimball and her husband Paul; a grandson, John S. Kimball; two granddaughters, Anne K. Guilds and Emily J. Kimball; two great-granddaughters, Ashley and Morgan Guilds; a sister Betty Jeanne Waff and her husband William, as well as several nieces and nephews. Jack also leaves behind his beloved dog Hokie. A memorial service will be held at 2 PM, Sunday, October 16, 2011 at the First United Methodist Church of Salem. The Rev. Bobby Pickle will officiate. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the First United Methodist Church of Salem, 125 W.
