Irene Lawrence Flowers, 104, of Salem, Va., took hold of her Heavenly Fathers hand on Thursday, March 21, 2024, at Lewis-Gale Medical Center.
Born on April 8, 1919, she was the daughter of the late Garland and Eliza Lawrence.
In addition to her parents she was predeceased by her husband, Walter Flowers; daughter, Dorothy (Dottie) Slaydon Wells; son, Jerry W. Blackford; brothers, G.W. Lawrence, Gordon Lawrence, Tallie Lawrence, and J.C. Lawrence; and sisters, Cricket Reynolds, Mammie Hill, Rita Neighbors, and Daisy Jones.
Those left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Barbara Blackford of Salem, Va., and Sandra Clark of Spartanburg, S.C.; grandsons, Tony Slaydon (Donna) of Salem, Va., and Michael Slaydon (Lynda) of Salem, Va.; granddaughter, Leeann Clark of Rutherford, N.J.; great-grandchildren, Nicole, Cory, Allen, Shayne, Katie, and Stephanie; great-great-grandchildren, Ryker, Zayden, Bennett, Jonah, Allison, Nevaeh, Kayleigh, Abigail, and Jared; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, March 26, 2024, at the John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home in Salem, Va. Her funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, March 27, 2024, in the funeral homes chapel, with Pastor Ken Nienke officiating. Interment will immediately follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens in Roanoke, Va.
