Hugh Lawson Carter, 93, of Laurel Springs, NJ and formerly of Salem, VA, passed away on Friday, September 17, 2010. Hugh was a member of the first graduating class of Andrew Lewis High School and proudly served in the US Navy for 10 years during WWII. Preceding him in death were his parents, S. Lewis and Dora Leslie Carter; wife, Anna Grace Weigand; brother, Edward L. Carter; and sister, Nellie May Carter. His surviving family includes a daughter, Ann L. Carter; brother, Robert L. Carter and wife, Dorothy; sister, Mary Frances Zimmerman; special nephew, Robert Zimmerman; and many other family members. A memorial service will be held on Friday, September 24, 2010 at 2 p.m. in the John M. Oakey & Son Chapel in Salem. A committal service will follow at Sherwood Memorial Park. The Rev. Everett Kier will officiate. In lieu of flowers, donations in Hughs name may be sent to the Salvation Army at 915 Haddon Avenue in Camden, NJ 08103.
