Hubert Preston (Bill) Parris, 88, of Salem, VA, died peacefully at his home on Thursday, September 20, 2012. He was preceded in death by his parents, Andrew and Maybelle Parris; his son, Dr. Robert Parris; his sister and brother-in-law, Mary Francis and Ed Hollandsworth; and his brother, Leon Parris. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Louise Parris; daughter and son-in-law, Dale and Bob Lee; and daughter-in-law, Ellen Parris of Macon, GA. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Nancy Burgess (Dalton); brother-in-law Edgar Peters (Claudine); sister-in-law Virginia Parris; six grandchildren, Alex Moore, Preston Moore, Lindley Wood (Gary), John Parris, Lauren Parris, Leah Parris, and numerous nieces and nephews. He proudly served his country as a member of the Army Air Corp in World War II. His career was dedicated to commercial construction with Frye Building Company and Branch & Associates, and was a life member of the International Union of Brick Layers & Allied Craftworkers Local #07. He was a member of Colonial Ave Baptist Church. The family will receive friends from 4-7pm on Sunday, September 23, 2012, at John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home in Salem. A graveside service will take place on Monday, September 24, 2012 at 1 pm at Sherwood Memorial Park, with Rev. John Boyles officiating.
