Howard McKinley Huffman, Jr., age 91, of Salem, died peacefully Thursday, May 31, 2012 at VA Hospital. Louise, his wife of 65 years, preceded him in death eight weeks earlier. Howard was born May 7, 1921, to the late Howard M.Huffman, Sr. and Venus Huffman. He was a veteran of World War II and the Korean War, serving in the 165th Engineer Combat Battalion. He retired from Graham White in 1983. Survivors include his son, Steve Huffman (Sandy, deceased) of Salem; daughter, Susan Tredway of Overland Park, KS; and daughter and son-in-law, Pat and Mike Jones of Jarratt, VA. He was proud of his grandchildren, Whitney Huffman, Courtney Huffman, Kelly Corcoran, Andy Jones, Casey Valiente, Travis Jones, Erinleigh Kinyanjui, Rachel Stratton and Richard Corbett. Howard also adored his great-grandchildren, Logan, Ryleigh, Eli, Michael, Mason, Levi, and Tyler. Also left to cherish his memory are his brother and sisters, Charles Huffman, Claudine Estes, and Jackie Rose, and many nieces, nephews, and friends. Howard was preceded in death by his sister, Geraldine Harless and his brother, Bobby Huffman. A special thank you to his loving caregivers, Debbie Repsher and Christine Pilling. Funeral service will be held Sunday, June 3, 2012 at 3:00 pm at Fort Lewis Christian Church in Salem, with the Rev. Terry Elkins and the Rev. Bill Murdock officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the funeral service beginning at 1:30 pm. Interment will be held Monday, June 4, 2012 at 10:00 am at Sherwood Memorial Park, Salem. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be sent to Fort Lewis Christian Church Building Fund, 2931 West Main Street, Salem, VA 24153.
