Herman Roy (Hunch) Boitnott, of Salem, passed away peacefully on Monday, November 2, 2015 at the age of 73. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Swaney Boitnott; and brother, David Boitnott.
A meat cutter by trade, he was the former owner of Mt. Vernon Meats and was employed by Lakeside Kroger meat department since 1999. His hobby was playing golf at Ole Monterey Golf Course.
Survivors include his loving wife, Shirley Dean Boitnott; sons, Warren Boitnott and Roy Boitnott, Jr.; daughter, Ann Boitnott; grandson, Michael Boitnott; granddaughter, Morgan Higley (Jeremy); brother, A. Wayne Boitnott (Nancy); sisters, Betty Lou Cowan (Clayton), and Lois Boitnott Poff (Eddie); two step daughters, Teresa Webb (Roger), and Teala Poore (Greg); sister-in-law, Christine Nolen; and brother-in-law, Dewey Perdue (Macie). Also surviving are great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews; and a four-legged companion, Lily Ann, who will miss him.
The family wishes to thank Gentle Shepherd Hospice for their loving care, and his Kroger family for their kindness during his illness. Special thanks to April Dean, his step-granddaughter, for all the love and care she gave him during his illness.
A memorial service will be held at 6 p.m. Saturday, November 7, 2015 in the chapel of John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home in Salem. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Rescue Mission, P.O. Box 11525, Roanoke, VA 24022.Service Information
