Henry J. Higgins, 80, of Salem, was called home by his Savior on Sunday, January 29, 2012.
He was born in Rockbridge County and had been a resident of the Poor Mountain Community since 1957. He was employed for many years as a truck driver with the VDOT and was a carpenter by trade. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Mary Lee Sloan Higgins, who passed away in 1994.
He is survived by a daughter, Shirley Montgomery and her husband Al of Salem; three sisters, Daisy Noel and Ollie Ayers of Lexington, and Sarah Hayslette of Scottsville; two grandchildren, Sharon S. Amos and her husband Eddie, and Marty Sinclair and his wife Sarah; three great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild.
The family would like to take this opportunity to express their sincere thanks and appreciation to the staff of Salem Health and Rehabilitation for the love and care shown to Henry during his stay there; you were all family to him.
A graveside service will be held at 11AM, Thursday, February 2, 2012 at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. The Rev. Hilton Jefferies will officiate. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Bethel Baptist Church Building Fund, 1601 Colorado St. Salem, VA 24153.
