Helen B Nelson, formally of Hampton VA died Tuesday June 5,2012 in Salem VA. For the past few years Mrs Nelson lived at the Joseph Thomas Assisted Living Facility among a host of loving, cherished caregivers. Despite the setbacks of dementia, Mrs Nelson retained a pleasant demeanor and always was quick with a smile or a friendly gesture. Mrs Nelson was preceded in death in 2006 by her beloved husband Wallace.Their union in marriage gave them 2 children, and 6 grandchildren. Her children include her daughter Jane Shuart and her husband Mark as well as her son Wally Nelson and his wife Heather. The family cherished their mother/grandmother as much as she cherished them. As the dementia faded Mrs Nelson's memory, one constant name always was part of her stories and dialogue-that name was Wallace. The family is assured Mrs Nelson is reunited with her husband Wallace now in their eternal journey. Mrs Nelson was born in Indianapolis Indiana and was raised in Christiansburg. Her husband's career took them to D.C. and then on to Hampton. Mrs Nelson was a faithful attendee and member of the FUMC of Fox Hill in Hampton and always loved her Sundays at church. . Mrs Nelson supported her children in all their endeavors from 4H to Little League and high school sports and activities. She followed her grandchildren the same way, relished in their success and was very proud of her grandchildren, Amy and Emily Shuart, Crandall Turner, Jay, Krysti and Katherine Nelson.
