We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord. Helen Frankenfield Long experienced the truth of this scripture on Saturday, November 20, 2010. She was born on July 7, 1927 in Foster, Missouri, and resided in the Roanoke Valley since 1946. She was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Stanley W. Long, and leaves behind a legacy three generations deep. She is mourned by her children, Helen and Ken Johnson, Lita and Randy Long, Nila and Bill Stickney, Stanley II and Kelle Long, John and Candy Long, Mary and Bob Bunn, and Sherry and Keith Joseph; as well as by 43 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren who knew her as Mom-Mom. A period of visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 23, 2010 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8:30 p.m. in the John M. Oakey & Son Chapel in Salem. Services will be conducted by her sons-in-law, Keith Joseph and Ken Johnson, on Wednesday, November 24, 2010 at 11 a.m., also in the chapel, with interment following at Sherwood Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Camp Eagle Ministries of Shenandoah Baptist Church or to the Salem Museum. Online condolences to the family may be made at www.johnmoakey.com. The Long family is being served by John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home in Salem, 540-389-5441.
